If you have a child who is suffering from allergies and you are having a difficult time trying to treat them, the problem may be inside your home. But you may not realize that when they are sleeping or indoors, it may be the worst time for them and they could exposed to what is causing them problems. Here are a few different things that you want to look into to make things better for your child.

Start with the Bedding

Your child most likely spends 8-10 hours a day sleeping in their bed. If you aren't caring for the mattress, pillows and blankets properly, this could be part of the problem. You want to do these things with the bed:

  • Vacuum the mattresses regularly
  • Use allergenic mattress and pillow protectors
  • Wash linens and bedding weekly

These are things that can make a big difference with your child's allergies, because they aren't breathing in the dust every day.

Improved Air Filtration

Improved air filtration can make a difference in the air quality throughout the house by preventing rooms and items from getting overly dusty. You can get filtrete filters for sale added to the HVAC system and installed around the home, so that not only dust but also other air pollutants aren't in the air, and aren't causing allergy concerns for your child. Duct cleaning is also a suggestion to consider to remove build-up in the ductwork around the home.

Get New Furniture

Every time someone sits on the furniture they could be pushing debris and dust into the air, and triggering your child's allergies. Getting new furniture can help if you don't vacuum regularly or if the furniture is really old, and you may want to switch to a material like leather so dust doesn't settle into the fibers. Treat the furniture to see if this is contributing to the problems.

There are a lot of different things that could be preventing your child from getting the relief that you desire for their allergies. Talk with their paediatrician, or maybe even an allergist, and look into these different solutions around your home to get relief. There are a lot of ways you can start to treat the allergies at home, so they aren't getting unnecessary exposure to the things that prevent them from feeling their best and that cause symptoms.
